Codek deliver another selection of disco-not-disco obscurities from the collections of In Flagranti and their pals. The “Sounds Superb” series has always offered up under the radar gems, and “Vol. 8″ is no exception. First up we have Nobie Dematt with “Spanjian” (obviously the artists and titles are all made up!). It’s the kind of French electro-funk cut you might have found on Celluloid circa 1984 – all angular keyboard rhythms, dirty basslines and Euro raps. Love it! I was wondering with the disco re-edit frenzy when anyone would get round to the Frank Chickens, and In Flagranti do just that on Neck Fink’s “Crash”, re-touching the 1980s Japanese performance art / music duo’s finest moment “We Are Ninja”. Not only was I DJ accompaniment to one of their shows, but also still know the hand moves to this track (yes, it had hand moves).
