This project started with the Mark Kamins Memorial in NYC, in April 2013 where Alex saw Konk doing their first live show since 1986. Sal P from Liquid Liquid was doing a improv set with DJ Justin Strauss and Alex told me how great it sounded, especially the Konk Bass Player. Liquid Liquid and Konk were some of my favorite bands in the early 80s. Liquid Liquid played live in Basel, Switzerland at the club where i was djing in 1983 and I saw them perform there.

A few months later, Alex and I were djing in Geneva where we had dinner with Jonny Sender, the bass player from Konk, who lives there with his family. We talked about how Alex and I never work in the studio together, and that we would love to work with him via internet. He liked the idea of being able to participate in a project without actually being there, being able to work on his own time, and delliver when he felt things were ready. A few weeks later, Jonny sent me back a few different bass lines that he had recorded in Geneva. I used them and recorded myself playing drums and percussion over them. It sounded perfect and I thought, “Wow! This reminds me of Liquid Liquid. It would be great to have Sal P do a vocal.”

I emailed the track to Sal P and asked him if he would be into it and he was. He recorded the vocal in New York and sent me the file, which I then mixed in my studio in London. It was fun mixing files that were recorded in Geneva, London & New York. For the remixes, Alex and I wanted someone old school like us, so I contacted Justin Strauss of Whatever Whatever and Sal recommended JD Twitch of Optimo. Both mixes are included in the 12″ vinyl we are releasing in September 2014 on our label Codek Records.
